Launched in 2013, Iranwire is a project supported by IREX, to support independent journalism and journalists in Iran. Iranwire has extensive coverage of news, sport and current affairs as well as reporting from the provinces. This project consists of a web publishing platform in Persian  and English.  We also have a Persian Facebook page as well as an English Facebook page and a Persian Twitter feed as well as an English Twitter feed.  

Currently being relaunched, Journalism Is Not A Crime is an umbrella project to bring attention to the treatment of individual journalists as well as the necessity of free speech, debate and expression.  The project includes original research, several documentary films, a campaigning web platform, individual support for persecuted journalists and two books.

Education Is Not A Crime is a global campaign to fight the barring of Iranian Baha’is from the country’s universities. Inspired by Maziar Bahari’s 2014 documentary film To Light a Candle, the campaign quickly won support from Nobel Peace Prize laureates Archbishop Desmond TutuDr Shirin Ebadi, and three others, and several other prominent figures

 

Freedom beat is a web platform and private network of musicians from across the Middle-East, many of whom are banned from performing in public and have had their work censored.  This project showcases their work and is creating and mentoring a community of like-minded individuals across the region.

Burundi Voices brings the power of live drumming performances to a population riven by memories of genocide.  The 'safe space' of the drumming circle allows heart-rending testimonies to be heard both by the victims and perpetrators paving the way for reconciliation and healing.
